and services. I am asked “what made you open a business like this?” The quick answer; this is my calling the very purpose I am meant to fulfill and I am honored and humbled to do so. Having to face the public after being diagnosed with an illness, feeling confused, vulnerable, leaving you with so many unanswered questions is at times paralyzing. I have experienced these fears when I was told I had a lump in my breast. My sister Dawn had been diagnosed with breast cancer at the same age as I was being told I to may have cancer; I was so sure I was facing the same diagnosis. As I waited for my surgery I experienced the same fears and frustration I had watched my sister and my mother and so many other friends and family members go through. I was fortunate that my lump was not cancerous, and I have never forgotten those emotions and fear. It became clear that too little was being done to eliminate these fears and the anxiety our loved ones face after being diagnosed with a life changing condition; I knew I could make a difference.
Having to face the side effects of chemotherapy alopecia or other medically related changes to your appearance is both emotional and physically challenging; it is not journey you need to take alone, rather a time to reach out for support and guidance. Our Qualifications as Professionals
Penny Shields is the owner
of A Fitting Place located in the Historic downtown Hastings, just two
blocks from the Mississippi River. A Fitting Place has been located in
Hastings since 2003, prior to owning a business in Hastings, she
co-owned a hair-loss clinic in Memphis TN. Every once in a while you’ll
hear her say “you all”, instead of “you guys.” Penny has over 40 years
as a Cosmetologist and she has perfected her skills as a cranial
specialist, specializing in hair-loss solutions for men, women and
children.
Chrissy Larson is a Certified Massage Therapist. She is a 2002 honors graduate from the Minnesota School of Business massage therapy program. She offers deep tissue and relaxation massage. Chrissy assists with mastectomy fittings, and fittings for Lymphedema garments. Chrissy is our front desk scheduler, her sunny voice and tender personality will greet you when you call to schedule your appointments.
Jeanie Danielson has joined A Fitting Place as our auditor and billing expert. She is also our Medicare Compliance Officer.
• The state of MN mandates that anyone providing wigs and services must be a licensed cosmetologist. Many other businesses will sell you a wig and tell you it is ready to wear, this is simply not true or they are unable to give you these services. ALL wigs need thinning, trimming and shaping and only a cranial specialist trained to work on wigs and the synthetic fiber can help you: without these services you will be disappointed and risk looking like you are wearing a wig.Penny is a certified mastectomy fitter and helps balance issues after reconstruction or lumpectomies. A Fitting Place measures and fits for lymphedema sleeves, glove and gauntlet.
• A Fitting Place is the only in-network insurance provider in the state of MN. If you have insurance coverage for this item we will be able to file your insurance claim for you. Call your insurance carrier to see if you have this coverage.
• A Fitting Place files all medial claims and Medicare, we are the provider of choice with most PPO’s, and we will file your crossover claims for you.
